'She's a beautiful girl... I'm her biggest fan' Now Karl Lagerfeld apologises after calling Adele 'too fat'

Karl Lagerfeld has apologised to Adele after calling the singer 'too fat'. The fashion guru has insisted his comments were taken 'out of context', adding that he is the singer's biggest fan. He told the Metro New York newspaper: 'I’d like to say to Adele that I am your biggest admirer.

'Sometimes when you take a sentence out of the article it changes the meaning of the thought. Adele is my favorite singer and I am a great admirer of her.' Lagerfeld, 78, also said he admired Adele for being so strong in the face of comments regarding her weight.

He added: 'I lost over 30 kilos over 10 years ago and have kept it off. I know how it feels when the press is mean to you in regards to your appearance.  'Adele is a beautiful girl. She is the best. And I can’t wait for her next CD.'

In his previous interview, Lagerfeld was quoted as saying that Adele was 'a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice.' Following the comments, Adele came back fighting, and insisted she's never aspired to look like the type of women that Lagerfeld sends down his catwalks.

She said last year: ‘I enjoy being me; I always have done. I’ve seen people where it rules their lives, you know, who want to be thinner or have bigger boobs, and how it wears them down. And I just don’t want that in my life. 'It’s just never been an issue – at least, I’ve never hung out with the sort of horrible people who make it an issue.

'I have insecurities of course, but I don’t hang out with anyone who points them out to me.’ Adele Adkins, 23, from South London, has become a huge star  in recent years with her two albums 19 and 21 selling more than 23.5million copies to date. 

Last year she had surgery for a throat illness but is set to return to the stage for the first time since the operation at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday. The soul sensation has been sporting a smaller frame recently ahead of her upcoming Brits performance.

It is thought she may have dropped the weight as a result of her recent health battle which saw her have to cancel gigs while she underwent throat surgery.
